Wembley Stadium event-day road management has been refined over many years and is run jointly by Brent Council, the Metropolitan Police, and Transport for London. The key things that change:
The two main roads close to the stadium aren't formally closed on event days, but traffic typically slows significantly in the hour before and after the event:
The travel and traffic page pulls TfL's live road-disruption feed and shows current incidents on the A406 and A40. It updates every couple of minutes and is the most reliable place to check before setting off on event day.
Wembley uses a one-way pedestrian system on Olympic Way for large events. The stewarded direction depends on whether you're inbound or outbound from the stadium. Signage and stewards make this clear on the day — follow them rather than your usual route, as some short-cuts will be blocked.
Closure typically begins around three hours before kick-off and stays in place through post-event dispersal (usually one to two hours after the final whistle). Exact times vary by event size.
Local roads immediately around the stadium are heavily restricted. The A406 and A40 stay open but typically see heavy volume. If you're trying to drive through the area on event day, expect to lose 20–40 minutes against a normal-day time.
Closures usually clear within a few hours of the event ending. By the next morning, normal traffic management is back in place, although early-morning stewards may still be present on the largest concert nights to clear barriers.
